City Council Vacancy
The City of Asheville operates under a council-manager form of
government. The Asheville City Council establishes the city’s policies and
appoints the City Manager who oversees day-to-day city operations and
executes Council-established laws and policies. The City Council also
ensures the entire community is being served.
The City Council is made up of a mayor and six council members who are
elected at-large. The advertised seat is for an unexpired term to be filled
by appointment of the City Council. The appointed individual will serve the
remainder of the vacant term, ending in December, 2022.
Eligible applicants must be City of Asheville residents and be registered to
vote in the City of Asheville. Applicants must submit an application,
resume and complete 6 essay questions (½ page for each response).

receive an application form and additional information. Application and
instructions will be sent out on Monday, August 3.
