ABCLT Racial Equity Committee

The Asheville Buncombe County Land Trust (ABCLT) is recruiting members to join a newly-forming Racial Equity Committee. Would you or someone you know be interested?

The purpose of this committee is to ensure that organizational policies and procedures are aligned with eliminating racial disparities both within ABCLT and within the traditional real estate market.

This committee will support the organization in working toward greater internal and community accountability and transparency in ABCLT's practices and commitments around racial equity. The committee will also support ABCLT in more intentional community engagement related to ABCLT activities and decision-making. The committee will create its own charter and goals in alignment with these intentions, and will work in a timely way to gauge ABCLT's current state of racial equity practices and develop and enact a course of action to improve those practices accordingly.

This committee will be composed of both ABCLT board members and community members. The committee will remain in effect and active until its work is more fully ingrained in the functioning of the organization, and until the committee’s work is able to be conducted more fully by the general board and staff of the organization. The first monthly committee meeting will be held in early 2023, depending on the scheduling availability of its members. Future monthly meetings will be held based on member availability.

This committee will be chaired by a member of our board and they are looking for community members to join the effort. Take a look below for a detailed description of the committee and if you are interested in this opportunity, please contact Anna Zuevskaya (anna@abclt.org) by Friday, December 30th to receive additional information.
